I am assuming that you are selecting File | Get External
Data | Import ...
Try this:
View all file types and file name extensions
In My Computer or Windows Explorer, open the folder you
want to view files in.
On the View menu, click Options.
To see all file types, click Show All Files on the View
tab.
To see all file name extensions in Windows 95, clear the
Hide MS-DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are
Registered check box on the View tab.
To see all file name extensions in Windows 98, clear the
Hide File Extensions For Known File Types check box on the
View tab.
Note The last two settings control whether or not the
file extensions are displayed in the Files of Type list of
the Open, Export, Import, and Link dialog boxes.
