My user is trying to insert a excel file into Ms Word. And is prompted
to install an import converter, but the installation fails with the
error message below.

--------

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource which is
unavailable" The location is \\ukrdgfp057\smspkgg$\00124\xp
s.....(Can't see the rest of the path"

Can anybody help, why cant the file just install instead of having to
use the import converter and why is the import converter failing in the
first place? This is only happening in XP.

The location path exists but it doesnt seem to look for it.

Hi Preet,

And if your user uses copy/paste to bring the Excel data into Word does
that work to get them up and running for the moment?

"Normally", one wouldn't use Insert/File to import Excel data. This
certainly does require a converter - after all, a spreadsheet file is not
a Word document! Anything not a Word document requires a converter for
Word to import it, including graphics.

It's possible a Registry entry for the converter location is incorrect,
but I don't know what that would be. In a typical installation the
converter would usually be installed locally. Might be a good idea to dig
around in the Office Resource Kit a bit to find out where converters are
installed and registered.

The folks in the word.conversions and/or word.setup.networking groups
might have a more definite idea on trouble-shooting getting the converter
to work.
