importing email from CD

I saved my email messages on a CD prior to having a clean
installation of XP performed.

I see the .dbx files on the CD, labeled by the various
folders I use to have in Outlook Express; but have not
been successful in getting them imported to Outlook
Express.

I actually just be happy if I could simply view the old
messages and address book from it's location on the CD.

How do I get access to these messages?

I tried to use the "import" feature from the "File" menu,
but I got an error message stating it could not open the
files.

When you do the File, Import, Messages and select OE6 make sure you select
"Import mail fron an OE6 stored directory" and not from an OE6 stored
identity.

did you use the "export" function of Outlook express, or did you just
manually copy the .dbx files?

Good question..... Apparently this has been a "senior"
week because I do not remember. I'm guessing
I "exported" them because there's files with the names of
Outlook Express folders that I wouldn't have bothered
saving on the CD.

Yes, I did that. I'll add that the error message I'm
getting states "No files can be found in this folder or
another application is running that has the required
files open".

Try copying all the exported files to a folder and be sure to remove the
Read OnlyAttributes , then go to import and point to the location of the
folder where you put them, Now you can import them into your OE6

Try copying the files from the CD to your hard drive. Also
try using a right click-open with- and select the
addressbook to open the addresses and use Outlook
Express\msimn.exe for the email.

The "Export" function in Outlook Express ONLY exports to Outlook or
Exchange, so if the CD has dbx files on it, then Export was NOT used.

Copy the files to a new folder on your HDD (NOT the location of your current
OE message store). make sure that the file called "Folders.dbx" is included.
Remove the "Read-Only" attribute from all the files. Open OE, and go to
File-Import-Messages and navigate to the folder you created.

THANK YOU. This worked. I should have figured this out
myself because it's sort of the same thing I did to
recover my messages when I first tried the upgrade to XP.

THANK YOU!
