i am setting up a new computer to use. i have copied the
contact info from .pst in outlook (from my old computer)
into this new one. when i open outlook, the contacts are
there if i click on contacts. BUT, when i try sending out
emails, it does not allow me to fill in the "to" or "cc"
fields, saying that "the contact folder associated with
this address list could not be opened; it may have been
moved or deleted, or you don't have permissions."

does anyone know what is going wrong?

thanks much!

Post your Outlook version.
Explain more accurately how you copied the information.

the operating system is XP, and outlook is 2003 version.

I copied the 'outlook.pst' from my old computer (copied it
on a USB storage unit), and put it in (documents &
settings>owner>local settings>application data>MS>Outlook)
on the new computer.

Now, when I open OUtlook, if I click on "contacts" they
are all there, but when writing emails i cannot just fill
the "to" field with one click.

is that clearer?
thanks.

I had the same problem and just figured it out. In
Outlook go to your "Inbox" and click on "Tools" memu,
click "Email Accounts"

Click "Add a new directory or address book" and then
click "Next".

Click Add

Click "Additional Address Books", and then click Next.

Click "Outlook Address Book" and then click Next.

Click OK

Restart Outlook.

Hope this works for you.

Never try to overwrite a PST file.
Hopefully, the only thing you've lost is the connection to the Outlook
Address Book. Reset it by removing and re-adding the Outlook Address Book
Service so that it will connect with your current PST. If you don't know
how, read these instructions:

I have followed the instructions that were suggested.
STILL, when I try writing a new email I cannot click
on "to..." to access the list of contacts!
