Just bought a new laptop and I want to import contacts
from work computer to laptop. I successfully export
contacts to cd, but when I try to import to laptop I
receive error message: "File access denied. You do not
have the permission required to access the
D:\contacts.pst. I am the only user of the laptop. It
seems that the contacts were saved on the cd as "read
only" files even though I specifically did not select that
option. Any ideas?

First try to copy the file to the hard drive before importing it. If you
still get the error, right click on the file, choose properties and uncheck
the attributes read-only or what ever is preventing you from reading the
file. That is just my generic advice to file problems- I have found that
the process of writing a file to a CD can cause the attributes to be
changed. Damned if I know why. Yo need to do the operation on the hard
drive because you cannot change the attribute (easily- if at all) while on
the CD.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ray. I tried it with both the
hard drive and a floppy drive. The properties change when
I burn it to a cd. Guess I'll just have to get an
external a drive for importing/exporting contacts and
calendar info.

copy the file to your laptop and then change the
attributes so that it is no longer read only then import
the file.
