I backed-up my personal folders file according to microsoft's instructions prior to doing a clean install on my computer. I currently have the backed up file on my desktop and for some reason I am unable to import it into Outlook. I go to import personal files and specify the file on the desktop. I am then asked to type the password for PersonalFolderspst. I am the only person who has ever used this computer and I have never had a need to type in a password. When I close the box requesting the password (without writing anything in it since I have no clue what the password could be), I get another box indicating that "properties for this information service must be defined prior to use" Not sure what this means. Is there any way to solve this problem or am I doomed to lose this important information forever
Would appreciate any and all suggestions....
Amy

First of all, make sure the file isn't marked read-only. If it's on a CD,
move it to your hard drive and remove the read-only attribute.

Once you've done that, try to open the .PST file in Outlook using File |
Open, instead of importing. Does that work better?

Jocelyn,
I already made sure that it is not read only. I followed
your advice and used open file in Outlook, but alas, the
same thing occurs. I am asked to enter the password for
personal folders and when I click on help, I get the
following message: "The help file mapping for personal
folders could not be located in the ]help file mappings]
section of MAPISVC.INF. Contact your administrator"
Is there any solution to this problem? I need my calendar
and contact lists for work desperately!

You can try a Google search for tools that will strip the password from a
..PST file -- pst19upg.exe is one of them, but it only works for some
versions of Outlook, from what I understand. If you choose to try
pst19upg.exe or any of the other tools, make sure you back up your original
..PST file before you start, just in case anything REALLY weird happens.
Good luck.
