Importing AVI Files

I have successfully imported 2 DV tapes into MM2 as '.avi-
files. However, instead of several clips as I've been
used to in previous downloads, I now have just 2 large
clips of 64 mins and 46 mins respectively. This is going
to be quite difficult to do detailed editing by
comparision with editing several small clips.
a. Can I overcome this problem in future '.avi'downloads?
b. How can I handle the editing in this instance. I
shall be reducing the downloads into one video of around
60 mins total.
Thanks

Do a right mouse click of the clip in the collection and opt to 'Create
Clips'.... see if that gets you what you want.

No. The system said that it was creating clips, went
through the process completing after 5 minutes but no
individual clips created.

That would mean that there are no breaks in the timecode of the DV-AVI
file... which is what MM2 looks for.

There's some info about the logic that MM2 uses when doing auto clip
detection.... on the Importing Source Files > Video > Intro page of my site.

Hi there,

Believe it or not its quite easy to solve this.

1) Click the large file in the collection pane so as to select it.

2) In the preview window press the play button and pause the playback at
the desired location.

3) Click the "Cut" icon (just under the preview window) When you do this
the collection pane will update itself with the new information.

4) repeat steps 2 and 3 as desired.

I realise that this is not "Best Result" but it will get you most of the
way towards a resolution.

Thanks, I have tried that and it works. Just a thought,
Can I overcome the problem if I had to delete all the
collections/project thus far and reimport DV tapes in a
new format. If so, what should this be.
