Brian,
I am guessing that your .avi is a movie you are trying to play in
PowerPoint. PowerPoint does not actually embed a movie file as is does a
..wav (audio) or .swf (Flash) file.
Okay, to insert a movie if fairly easy with Office 2000. Click the INSERT
option on the top menu bar, go to INSERT MOVIE AND SOUNDS, then select MOVIE
FROM FILE. Locate your .avi file and click okay to place object on slide.
You are given the choice to have it play automatically or not, click
whatever is appropriate for your slide. You can move and resize (hold down
the SHIFT key when resizing to keep proportional) movie object. Further
animation and playback options are available on the ORDER & TIMING and
MULTIMEDIA SETTINGS tabs of the custom animation menu (right click on movie
and select CUSTOM ANIMATION).
- Having an .avi formatted in a common CODEC is important, as it affects if
your computer can play the movie.
- An .avi is always on top, so you cannot place text or other images on top
of it.
- Do some research on hard vs. relative links (which affect how, if, the
movie will play when viewed on a different computer).
Best Regards,
Troy Chollar
