Importing .avi clips WMM will only open portion of clip.

When importing .avi clips WMM will only open about 1:45 of the clip. Other
players will open the whole clip for viewing. Please somebody, what do I
need to do?

Players and MM work differently, so what one plays does not mean will open
in movie maker.
..avi is just a container, it can contain many types of files from dv-avi to
mpeg, mjpeg, divx etc.

Thank you Graham for responding. At least now I know a file with .avi may be
something else. However, I'm still in the dark. The files come from a video
camera and all I know is that it put out .avi files and uses it uses xvid
compression.

It is not unusual for AVI files made with the XVID codec to be problematic
with Movie Maker.
You could try downloading an XVID codec from here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/
But some users have reported that they have not had any luck getting the
XVID AVI files to play without converting them.
