I've copied my old address book to a CD. I'm aware that it is a read only
file and the CD must be loaded into my hard drive. THe file is a CSV.wab but
it doesn't transfer to Outlook when I go to import. What am I doing wrong?

Outlook has never used and cannot import WAB files.
Explain more clearly what you are trying to do. Are you expecting Outlook to
import a file created by a different program?

you'll need to hook it to OE first - See if http://www.insideoe.com has the
information you need to do that.

What youre doing wring is believing the WAB (Windows Address Book) has
anything to do with Outlook, which uses its own Contacts folder for
addresses. It doesn't use the WAB at all.

Ok, correct me when I go wrong. Outlook has its own address book which is the
contacts folder and it doesn't support Wab files. I originally imported a
CSV.wab file list from OE. (how I don't know since you have stated that
Outlook will not accept Wab files) Now I want to import those contacts to my
laptop. I thought the best way would be to copy the OE address book to a CD
and then copy that CD to my hard drive. From here I had hoped to be able to
import it. Bear with me....

Correct.

I originally imported a CSV.wab file list from OE. (how I don't know
since you have stated that Outlook will not accept Wab files)

OE's import will accept WAB files directly using File>Import>Address Book.
It will also import CSV files containing address definitions with
File>Import>Other Address Book. Once the addresses are in OE, Outlook will
import them with File>Import and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses
Now I want to import those contacts to my laptop. I thought the best way
would be to copy the OE address book to a CD and then copy that CD to
my hard drive. From here I had hoped to be able to import it.

That sounds like a plan to me. Copy your WAB via CD to the laptop and start
OE there. Use OE's import to import that WAB and then use Outlook to import
from OE, as described above.

I exported my address book as a .WAB file from Outlook Express. It opens as
an independent file. How can I import the contacts to my Outlook file?

Outlook can't use a WAB file.
You can only import one into OE. Form there you can import into Outlook.

I have been trying to upgrade from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2002. I have
a .wab file I want to USE or convert or import into Outlook 2002.

I would THINK this is a "normal" upgrade path to go from the free OE to the
(purchased) Outlook. So Microsoft is allowing someone to import address books
from competitor email programs (Eudora, Netscape for example) but NOT their
own? But your statement appears to be accurate, as I have found NO way to
import an existing wab file created in OE 6 into Outlook 2002

Actually, the import of addresses IS "supported" for OE 4 and 5, as those
two appear in the import wizard. I wonder if/when OE 6 will be supported?

OE6 uses exactly the same files and locations as OE5, so use that option.

I did use that OE 4, 5 option and it "imported" 0 of 152 when I tried
importing as a "personal address book".

I WAS successful in importing the OE .wab file as the "contacts" list. I am
not crazy about this, but it DID work.

Outlook doesn't use the Personal Address Book any more. ALl addresses are
kept in the Contacts folder.

I'm looking for a way to import my address book to a specific address folder. Can some one help? I'm using Outlook 2007.

Please start a new thread.

In it, explain:

1. Version of Outlook
2. Source of contacts data - please be very specific as to versions of
software involved
3. Is this Outlook account: Exchange, IMAP, or POP3 (or other, such as
Deltasync)
