Hi folks.
I rather strange and distressing thing has happened.
I can no longer import video files from the hard drive into Movie Maker.
When i try the 'open file' box opens briefly and then the program crashes
back to the desktop.

This also happens in OTHER video editing applications whenever i try and
import video. The program kicks me out. This only started happening today
and i don't know why? I've not installed anything new.

I can't use the system restore because there was a fault with that a few
days back. Basically its some incompatability with RealOne player, that
causes it to crash and purge ALL previous restore points!

I've done a google search through the newsgroups and a handful of other
people have expereinced exactly the same. But there were no followup posts
arrggggghhhhhhh - its always the way!

Can anyone advise please. There's nothing specific on papajohn's site.
And this applies to video importing on other editing programs.
Thanks

Update

This seems to only happen when i'm importing from the 'My videos' folder!
In other programs like Paint shop, virtual dub, premiere etc. Whenever an
'open file' box set to browse My Videos is open, the progam either closes or
displays an "encountered a problem in qdv.dll" error.

Hey Mike,

Hmmm, that sounds strange.
Does it happen with all files in your My Videos Folder?
Can you show thumbnails in Explorer in the My Videos folder without any
problems?
I'm thinking that it may be a particular file/codec combination that causes
you to crash. I've seen Explorer crash generating thumbnails for files when
there was a problem with the codec.

Did you perhaps copy new files over to your My Videos folder?
