I have several hundred e-mails in Outlook 2002 which I want to import into
Vista Mail. The import options don't seem to give me the .pst format.

Mark, I was told by Dell support that you can only import from Outlppk
Express, but not from Outlook.

I would export your messages to outlook express 6, save in a folder on your
desktop and then open Vista mail and import as outlook express 6. Should
work if you have that options. If not email me the options outlook is
allowing you and I will see if i can help.

You can only import from Outlook if you install Outlook.

You can't directly import from a .PST file, you must install Outlook,
connect it to the .PST file, and import from Outlook. Both Outlook Express
and Windows Mail require Outlook to be installed and functional in order to
import from a .PST because only Outlook has the ability to open and use this
type of file. Your choices are:

1. Import your Outlook data into Outlook Express (assuming that you have
Outlook 2002 installed on a machine that also has OE installed), move the OE
(.DBX) data files to the Vista machine and import from them.

2. Install Outlook on the Vista machine, move the .PST file to the Vista
machine and connect Outlook to it, then import with Windows Mail.

Wrong. You can import from Outlook just fine, but you must have Outlook
installed on the machine used to do the import, you cannot just move the
..PST file and expect to import from it.

I've copied the .dbx files to the Vista machine (saved in local docs). When
I use Windows Mail to import and choose OE6 as the version it says that no
files of the correct type have been found.

I'm just off to work now and have switched off the other PC but it may be
because the other OE version is higher than 6? I'm sure it is!

Any further help would be appreciated.
