Michael

I recently bought a new computer (XP + Office 2003). From the old
computer (with office 2000) I made a copy of my .PST file, thinking it
contained all my data (emails, contacts, tasks,....) and that was all
I needed for an import. Now, when I tried to import that file to
Outlook 2003 it only imports mails and nothing else. What am I doing
wrong and is there anyway of getting to my other data stored in the
PST file?

Thanks, Michael

Sounds like you copied the wrong PST.
Did you look to see which PST your other installation was using as its
default? That's the one you want. If the PST you copied contained only mail
messages, you probably copied something like the archive.pst.

I used the file that was specified in the "mail setup/ data files
location. The old PC was a business PC and it was hooked up to a M
Exchange server. However, I was able to access my contacts off line
and synchronize data (and contacts) with my Palm. So, I am sure it i
the right file.

Exchange Server does not normally use a PST file.
How did you create the one you used?

I did not create it, Outlook did. It is the outlook.pst file I a
refering to, and which I hoped to use to import all my data

Explain the rest, then.
Why did Outlook create a PST file if you are running against Exchange
Server? Where did you find this file?

The PC (actually laptop) was configured by our administrator. So,
personally did not do anything to any files. The only thing I was tol
to do by the admin, that if I wanted to work offline, I had t
synchronize my data. This I did. And it worked, as I was able to acces
mails and addresses when I was not hooked up to the network (exchang
server).

When I wanted to migrate the data kept in my original Outlook to my ne
personal laptop, I did a search for a ".PST" file. It had found on
namely the outlook.pst file. This file in turn I copied to my ne
laptop, thinking it contained all my original outlook data.

Exchange synchronizes with an OST file, not a PST file.
So you never created a PST file that contains Contacts.

Are you saying that I might have gotten the wrong file? Does the OS
file contain the contact data, or should I be able to get out of th
PST file? Is there any way to verify whether the PST file contains an
contact data at all?

Mik

You would have had to expressly export your Contacts data to a PST file.

Just open the PST file in Outlook and see if it contains any Contacts.
