Subject: Import your messages or account from Outlook Express to Outlook
Sub topic: When Outlook and Outlook Express are installed on different
computers
Instruction Step 7: On the computer where Outlook is installed, open Outlook

Would appreciate some guidance.

What OS on the new computer?

Windows Vista

Then do this:
Copy ALL the mail files from OE (including the one called Folders.dbx) and
paste them into a folder you have created on your new machine, to which you
have read/write permissions. A folder within your Documents folder would
seem to be the best place.
Then in Windows Mail, do File-Import-Messages, highlight Microsoft Outlook
Express, and click next.
Make sure that "Import from an OE6 Store directory is checked, (that's why
you need to copy the folders.dbx file, because that tells WM the folder is
an OE message store) and click on OK. Browse to the folder you created.

When it's all imported into Windows Mail, then in Windows Mail EXPORT to
Outlook.

Thanks for your help.
I got the dbx files as far as Windows Mail and decided that it was the right
mailer for me, rather than Outlook 2007. So I didn't test the whole process.
Thank
John

YW!

Thanks so much! Once I imported the .dbx files to Window's Mail, I coulnd't
export them to Outlook. However, I opened Outlook and Imported from Window's
Mail, and that worked! Seems crazy to have to do all that to go from one
Microsoft product to another, but I am glad someone knew how to do it!

Thanks again

Glad it's sorted!

I am in the process of importing the Windows XP .dbx Outlook Express messages
to Vista Windows Mail, and copied them to a folder under Documents. When I
go to the folder, I see them all listed. However, when in the import process
using browse it cannot see them, says the folder is empty and cannot import.
What am I missing?

You're missing the fact that this isn't a Windows Mail newsgroup. It's
topic is Office Outlook. Go ask in microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
