I have been trying to import my old messages from a CD created by my old
computer. I have put the files in a Document folder but when I try to import
I get the message: No messages can be found or another application is
running that has the required files open. I have unchecked the read only
box. Any ideas?

I have found the folders.dbx but my old computer won't let me copy it to
disk. Any other suggestions? I have been to your site, Steve, and have
having great trouble with the "read only" when copying the message folders to
disk. Also, can't figure out how to include the folders.dbx.

copy it to a shared folder then copy it to the Vista computer where the
other DBX files are.

I don't know why you can't copy it. Make sure OE is not running on the
machine.

I was able to get it copied and have successfully moved my files. Thanks for
your help.

Thanks for this site. Was finally able to get my local folders over to
Windows mail but when I click on a specific folder, there are ' no messages
in this view" even though it indicates # of unread messages in folder and
total messages etc.

After import, the same thing happened on my inbox.

Have confirmed that folders contain messages by looking in AppData

Any thoughts on what stupid thing I've done ( or am doing) wrong?

It doesn't sound as if they imported correctly. If you access the
directories in Explorer and click on a eml file, does it open to a message?
You can search for *.eml to figure out how many messages might really be
there.

The local folders / messages are in the AppData file and I can open folder
and messages there. In Windows mail inbox, only see folders , number of
messages - when open folder, says no items

Thought I might just need to click on a different view but I can't find
anything that makes a difference in the windows mail menu.

Guess I'll try to import again

FYI - for those with same problem. got it to work. Uninstalled McAfee that
was preloaded on new Dell with Vista. I think this has been source of my
problems with this new computer.
