Import from very old PCFile file

I'm working with some very old files on a very old computer for genealogy and
they are stored in PCFile, which I know nothing about. The first file has
been very successful: I renamed the file (because they are from backup.001,
etc. files) from Backup.001 to Backup.dbf. I then opened in Excel, then in
turn imported to Access. Now I'm working with the next file and it says it
is password protected, but the users do not have to enter a password, so they
have no idea what the password might be. Does anyone know anything about
PCFile and how I could get a version of the data backup up that I can read?
Thanks for any possible help! Sherry

See if the PC File program has an export option to export the data into text
or csv files. It might even do something like Excel which would make it
easier to import into Excel.

Thanks Jerry! I've got it now! Sherry

When the filter you use isn't correct for the file you import excel may ask
for the password as it can't read the file. Have you opened the file in a
hex/asci editor to see what it really contains. It may be another format
besides dbf. Rumor (other news groups) has it that PCFile can export to CSV
files which may be the solution to your problem.
