I've just imported a load of e-mails, folders and contacts from Outlook and
although the folders are visible in Windows mail (and indicating the number
of unread items) the messages are not visible.

Has anyone got a fix for this?

Peter, I don't have a fix for your problem, but you may have one for me.
Microsoft Mail will not let me Import my Outlook messages. I have been using
MS Office 2000 and Outlook. I now have windws Vista and Windows Mail. When
trying to import messages from Outlook I get an error message "Messages
cannot be imported from the MAPI client" That's as far as I get. How did you
get your Outlook messages imported?

Hi guys,

Assuming you've got the same situation as me i.e. Outlook on old PC, Vista /
Windows mail on new: The rather complicated answer is:
Download the free Office 2007 trial from Microsoft
Copy the outlook.pst file from your old PC to your new
Then import from Outlook into Windows mail

Apparently Windows mail only allows you to import from Outlook on the same
PC but why you'd want to do that I don't know.

However, bee warned that you may end up with my original problem!

Moving data from Outlook to either OE or WM requires both Outlook and OE/WM
to be installed and functional on the machine used to do the transfer. The
error message results form the Outlook "pieces" required to access the
Personal Folders (.PST) file not being present.

So many posts & answers say the same thing- must have Outlook & W Mail
running in order to import your email & folders from Outlook to Windows
Mail", etc but I never see any explaination on how to move your Outlook
foldes to Windows Mail Does anyone know how to do this? Please do not reply
with, "use import wizard" or the like. I get the same error message, "cannot
import from MAPI client. . . " Thank you.

You MUST install Outlook on the Vista machine! When its installed and
working, transfer your Outlook .pst file to the Vista machine and connect
Outlook to it:

To move a Personal Folders .pst file

Reconnect your old Outlook data file

From there, open Windows Mail and go to 'File|Import|Messages|Microsoft
Exchange (or Microsoft Outlook)' to transfer messages. For contacts, Open
Outlook and go to 'File|Import and
Export|Export to a file|Comma Separated Values'. Once finished, open
Windows Mail and go to 'File|Import other Address Book|Text File (Comma
Separated Values)'.

Again, you MUST install Outlook on the Vista machine or you'll continue to
get the "cannot import from MAPI client" error. Outlook is the "MAPI
client" and you cannot import from something that isn't there...
