Import from non-MS program, data in plain text format

I use an email system that is NOT Microsoft. I am considering migrating to
Outlook - or Outlook Express.

The current program will export emails in plain text format, so-called
"Berkley mailbox format". But Outlook does not appear to import plain text.
I don't understand why. If my current program can import plain text and
parse it sensibily into emails (and pre-populate the address book), then
presumably Outlook must be similarly competent.

I'd be grateful for your suggestions: how can I resolve this?

Have you checked Outlook Express also? If OE will import the mail file, you
can export the messages to Outlook if that's what you'd prefer to use.
