Import French evt on English system?

I have someone who has exported an event application log from a french
windows 2003 server and when I try to import it on my english XP or windows
2000 machine i get a message that the log is corrupt. I suspect that that's
because the log is corrupt, but I'd like to eliminate the possibility that
it's because the original log was not in my language. Has anyone here
imported an event log from a system running a different language?
 
Have them save it as TXT or CSV instead.
