I have having a problem importing dates from a text file. I have a fixed
width text file that has several date columns in it, the format is yymmdd (no
delimiters). I have used this import specification for years in 97, 2000,
and 2002 and they all work but when I use the same one (imported) or build a
new one for 2007 I get the error "The specification XML failed to validate
against the schema. There is a error in the following line of XML
document:|, "

Does anyone have any ideas? most I find in the Knowledge Base says this is
a sever error??

TIA

that error message about XML sounds like a very wrong error message. After
all, you not using XML at all here.

Do note that there are several bad errors in the 2007 import routines that
were fixed by applying the latest (sp2) service pack (including one for
dates without delimiters). So, do ensure the sp updates are installed.

I would re-build and re-make the import spec and see if that helps. (try the
sp2 update first...see if that helps, and the if not, then try re-building
the import spec and see if that helps).

Thank you Albert, SP2 did the trick, I did it on my lap top, now I need to
get IT to update my company lap top.

I just hope some of the other folks out there find this so it can help them
too as they were posting the same question on other sites and blogs.

Yes, you have the right idea here. It is not at all great you had this
problem, but at least others now can hopefully avoided this pain.

So your question (and efforts) turns out to be a benefit for us all...

I have MS Office Access 2007 (12.0.6423.100) SP2 MSO (12.0.6529.500)
I trying to import text file (Fixed Width) and there is still error:
"The specification XML failed to validate against the schema. There is a
error in the following line of XML document:|, "
When I open same database in Access 2003, there is no problem with importing.
What I have to do to fix this issue?
