Hi,

How would I import a distribution list to another computer? I have it on my
ocmputer and I saved it as an .rtf file. I wen to the other computer to try
to import but I do not see that option. I saw a "share" inside the
distribution lists but if that means they would host it that will not work
because i need everyone to have access at all times, independent of a certain
user being logged on.

Thank You,
Matt

You can't import DL's. Importing is never the right way to transfer Outlook
data. Either save it as an Outlook Item, or open the Outlook data file in
which it resides and copy it.

Thank you for responding Russ,
Just a few questions: How would i save it as an outlook object and then what
would I do with it? If I started a new outlook data file would it not
overwrite the existing one? If not how would i do that? Do you mean .pst
file?

My goal is to have 5 peopple with the same distribution lists without having
to create them on on each users echange profile. Myself and one other user
are creating all of the lists and i wanted to get the lists, when done, to
everyones contact list, whichever way would best accomplish this.

If everyone is using Outlook, just attach the DL as an Outlook Item to an
RTF message and send it to everyone. All they need to do is open it and save
it to put it into their default Contact Folder.

Thank You Russ,
I think i'm almost completely on board. I apologize for needing this spelled
out for me but i do not use outlook that often

Yes, everyone has outlook. What do you mean by "an outlook item"? I saved
the DL to my documents and attached but it doe not seem that's what you mean.

I'm soory, i need specifics. I have the DL's created in contacts, I open a
new mail message. This is where i'll need it broken down, in how exactly I
attach and save it to the other computer.

Thank you again,
Matt

You should be able to create a new Rich Text message and then drag the DL to
the message to attach it or use Insert>Item

Thank You for answering Brian,
again i apologize but i need to clarify.

I hit "new mwssage" is that by default rich text? If not how do i instigate
a rich text to be sent? And when i save it at the other computer do I save as
to the local computer and then drag to contacts or do i drag the attachment
from teh email to contacts.

Again, i apologize. Let me take it from, on my computer a DL is done. Where
do I go, how do i initiate the new message in .rtf, how do i attach my DL,
how do I save to other computer.

Sorry,
Matt

If you've chosen it to be so on Tools>Options>Mail Format.
If not how do i instigate a rich text to be sent?

In the compose window, click Format>Rich Text.
And when i save it at the other
computer do I save as to the local computer and then drag to contacts
or do i drag the attachment from teh email to contacts.

The latter should work.

Hold on.
For clarification: When sending the DL, only Insert Item will work. Dragging
from My Documents will not because he did not save it as an Outlook Item, he
saved it as an RTF file. Best practice would be to use the Insert Item
command to insert the DL directly from the Contacts Folder and forget that
RTF file.

The recipient should simply open the DL and save it. It will be saved to the
default Contacts Folder.

Brian & Russ,
Thank you both. I am almost there.

Putting email in RTF is done but i am looking everywhere to "insert item". I
can insert a slew of other things, tables.. files... diagram, i did see
insert object but did not see "contact or DL" as an option.

I looked through the other tabs and i do not see it there either. Where do i
inser the item from?

Thanks (almost there)
Matt

That depends on your Outlook version and which editor you are using.
Did you look in the dropdown next to the attachment icon (the paperclip)?
