Import .csv from Excel

I have a database that was supplied as an Excel .csv formatted file.
I wish to import this into Access.
The instructions that I was given were:-

In Access go to [File] menu, select [Get external data], select [Import] and
find the file.
Tick that the first row contains Column Headings, press [Next].
Store the data in a new table, press [Next].
Chose no primary key, and press [Finish]

However I am a total Access newbie and when I "go to [File] menu" I am not
offered [Get external data].

Can someone please help me with this?

did you create a new Access database first? If not 'Get external data'
command will be inactive.
So, I believe creating a new database (or using an existing one) should
help.
