I want to import my Windows mail contacts directly into an Outlook
distribution list without having them be added to my Outlook contacts.
Possible?

Not recommended. Not supported. Results will vary. Try it. Tell us what
happens.
DL's that aren't based on Outlook Contacts have always been a bad idea.
Curious as to why you think it is good one.

I am not sure how ?

Some advice - don't. If your version of Outlook supports Categories, then
import the WM contacts directly into Outlook Contacts and assign them a
Category. Far more robust than Distribution lists and far easier to
administer...

You cannot import directly into a DL. You can only import them into your
Contacts. From there you can put them in a DL.
None of this is a good idea. That's why I'm wondering why you want to try
it.
