I have read the uninstall instruction for Windows
messenger (solve ID 7) on Jonathan Kay's site.

BEFORE doing (the irrevocable) I wanted to know whether I
could inadvertently block "ethernet" transfers of files
between workgroup members in the same office (stuff on
Shared files in XP) by uninstalling the Messenger service.

Thanks for your comments.

Messenger isn't a service it's a program. It shouldn't stop normal Ethernet
protocols e.g. NetBIOS, TCP/IP, from working if it is uninstalled.
