Implementing DFS using Win2000 and NT 4.0 Servers

Hello,

I'm trying to teach myself how to use this, and thought it
would help to post a general newbie question about it:

I have data on an NT 4.0 that I need to make accessible on
a Win 2000 server (ultimately, through ASP pages via IIS
on a Windows 2000 server)

My question: if the data is on the NT server, do I need to
install DFS on that server, or do I set it up on the Win
2000 server? Can anyone point me in the right direction on
how to get started?

Thanks in advance...

You have data on NT4 server, you want to access this from Win 2000 server,
right?
If yes, then why do you think you need DFS (for what purpose)?
You can share the data normally on NT4 and then access it from Win2000
machine.

Mukul,

Thanks for the reply. Here's the situation...

The data in question is Foxpro tables (separate .DBF
files, not a container) Through a "DNS-less" connection on
an ASP page, I just can't access the data while it's
stored on an NT server. However, the same data on a
Windows 2000 server causes no problems, I can access it
fine through my pages.

All the file permissions are correct, and I can hit it
fine using a UNC directly through a browser or File
Explorer. There's just some strange things going on with
the files while they're stored on NT.

After much discussion with several engineers here, we
decided to try DFS. It is our understanding that FDS will
work in a mixed environment.

Again, thanks for the reply, and any insight that you can
provide would be appreciated.

Regards,
Paul Alvarez
