A friend of mine has a problem with his PC. He has Windows XP on it, and
when it boots into windows either in regular or safe mode an error pops up
right away:

"When trying to update a password, the return status indicates that the
value provided as the current password is not correct."

After a few seconds it then reboots itself, and I can never find a way to
get into Windows. It does this in Safe Mode too! Is there a DOS worm remover
that I can use? Or is there a better way to kill this thing?

My friend has a term paper on it and has online classes and needs to get it
back up and running ASAP.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Oh yeah, this is the assumption that this is the sasser worm!

I highly doubt it is the Sasser worm.

Are you sure this is XP and not 2000? A lot of people upgraded to
Win2K when it came out, thinking it was an upgrade for Windows ME -
which it decidedly wasn't. I'm asking because the results of a search
for the error message at MS Support seem to indicate it's a Windows
2000 error, not XP. Apparently it's an IIS error related to upgrading
either IE or IIS.

If it's really XP, do a system restore.

What did he do right before this happened? Was he installing or
upgrading some software?
