So, I gotta ask...why are you bothering with all this if you're not going to
post the image on the web? Seems like a big bother messing with all this and
asking these questions in a FrontPage WEB design software newsgroup if you
have no intention of posting the image on the web.
Open the original image file in Photoshop and see what colorspace it's
in...or ask whomever sent it to you if it's cmyk or rgb.
That's about all I can suggest without seeing what you are doing.
