Alright…

Well I’m sorry Sleepy. I didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes about
‘being a true gamer or not’. But according to your logic, because I
didn’t have some ‘voodoo’ (along with others) in the past, I’m not a
gamer … fair enough I suppose…

All I’m trying to do I get advice before I go out and buy a video
card – I really don’t want to argue over unimportant things like if
I’m not a gamer or not. If you think I’m not a gamer, then I’m not a
gamer, case closed.

Now back to the matter at hand…

I just read the “F*** Sapphire” thread and according to that.. I think
sticking to your guns and always buying the original manufactures card
is the best way to go. It looks like only one individual actually
praised the Sapphire card.

So bottom line,

(This is just some way out random example)

If the Ati card cost $700 and one of theses reseller cards cost $550
and you had $590. Would you by the reseller card or just save up
money for the true Ati card?

Please -*do not*- respond with “I would just forget Ati all together
and go with another Card” or throw in other frivolous variable –
that’s not what I’m looking for.

I want to know if you would buy the reseller card or just save and
wait to buy the genuine Ati card.

Thanks.

each to their own. (and I am a gamer). I have had a lot of Gainward which
are good. I've got a GeCube at the moment. Never had trouble. Baack in
the day there were differences between difference makers of cards.
Now-a-days its not so much. Basically the cores are all the same and they
all perform about the same. All companies have some bad cards so out. All
companies have good cards go out. I wouldn't get excited about looking for
a genuine Ati or Nvidia card.

Sapphire build cards ' closer ' to the ATi reference than other
manufacturers. They also make many of what you think are other
manufacturers cards for them. Sapphire, not for fun are the ATi
preferred maker.

You get what you pay for from any maker including sapphire, you may
for example buy from a-n-other maker, when in reality it's a '
Sapphire ' built to a design brief with cheap shit slow memory. You
can of course get cheap shit memory from Sapphire - it's a range of
cards to fit a price determined marketing range.

You should tell the group :

- which [ precise ] card
- give the URL
- state the VPU [ R3xx whatever ]
- state the memory [ speed / ref / etc ]
and give the price $ / £

You may not know the answers to all of the above, but you must know
the " - which [ precise ] card "

Hi Arcadeia,
Here's what ATI says about the partner products:
"Does a Partner Product vary in performance and functionality to an ATI
Retail Product?
A3:Since Partner Products are based on ATI chipset technology, it is
possible for Partner Products to have the same features and performance as
ATI retail products. However, ATI chipsets do support a wide variety of
memory configurations and display output options that allow Partner Products
to also come in a multitude of performance and feature configurations.
Please visit the websites of our Partner Product manufacturers for vendor
specific specifications."

I buy "Made by ATI" cards because I'm to lazy to do the extensive homework
involved in selecting a "partner" whose standards/specs/components are at
least as good as ATI's and I'm too chicken to take a chance on getting
screwed. Sapphire seems to be the best partner but I still prefer the "Made
by ATI" product." I pay more but I feel more secure. Like many others I
build my own boxes but I carefully choose quality components and I don't
usually go for the "best bang for the buck" argument. It's your loot - you
make the call <s>.

I've used a Sapphire ATI 9100 128MB, would not overclock much, but It always
worked.
( I now use an ATI 9600 PRO AIW)
Find out which model you want (9600, 9800, etc.), then read every review you
can find on the web.
Also see if any graphics card company has had a lot of complaints about
their warranty service.
