Hello,

IMAP incoming mail filtering isn't implemented in Windows Mail.
Does anyone know if this is a feature that will be added later on, or was
omitted on purpose (exclusive use for Office's Outlook, or something?).

With regards,

Thank you.

I agree that Spam Filtering should be done by the imap server, but things
like Message Rules? Shouldn't the client be capable of doing that as well?
It's mainly an user-tool for organizing email anyway. Does Live Mail Desktop
allow the user to organize his imap email?

Sorry, but I don't use IMAP. I just know from helping thers that message
rules have to be applied server side. I would imagine, but don't know, that
the same holds true for organizing.

I think one could write a client that would do the IMAP filtering, but the
client would have to download at least a portion of the message (depending
on the filter) to be able to ascertain if its to be filtered or not, so if
the message has to be downloaded anyway, why not do the filtering client
side after downloading the messages?

Well this is by far the one app in Vista I will never use then. I store my
email on an IMAP server and while my server can mark messages as spam, I
would like the filtering to be done via my email client.

So far thunderbird, evolution and OSX's Mail.app can all filter IMAP
messages. As can Outlook as well. Any reason why this is omitted in Windows
Mail ?

Its omitted because the developers purposely chose not to add it, even
though it was requested by a number of MVPs for OE.
