IMAP and spam filter

Hi

Newer versions of Outlook have a spam filter builtin, moving spam to
"Unwanted emails" (I guess it is, my Outlook is Danish). That is, if you use
POP3. If you use IMAP, some IMAP folders are created outside "Private
folders" (I guess it is) and without any "Unwanted emails" folder.

Can someone confirm that IMAP (where mails remain on the server) is
"incompatible" with this spam filter?

Thank you in advance!

Outlok 2003 will locate spam in an IMAP account's Inbox and move it to the
default Junk E-mail folder. Outlook 2007 will create a Junk E-mail folder
in the IMAP server and use that.

Hi Brian Tillman

Yes, it is Outlook 2003. BUT, apparently it doesn't do this. All spam
mails (plenty!) just stay in the IMAP account's inbox. Outlook's general
"Private folders" contain a folder "Unwanted emails", but this is empty.

It seems that I miss something in the settings, or how do I make it work?

By the way, how is it supposed to work? Should spam be downloaded to the
local junk email folder and then deleted on the mail server?

Thank you in advance!

Do you have the IMAP account configured to download complete items?

I believe that's how it should work, yes, but since I've never gotten any
spam on my IMAP account, I can't test it.

No, you are right. Now I have! But it still doesn't work. Now the full
spam mails just arrive and remain in the IMAP account's inbox (in fact while
I'm writing this!).

Also the online help says it SHOULD work, but how?
What is the somewhat not too obvious trick here!?

Hopefully regards from

I can't reproduce. If you include the IMAP account in the Send/Receive
Group and tell it to download complete items, it should work, and does for
me. Sorry I'm not much help.

- and now "it should work, and does for me"?

The system confuses me a little, the same do you... ;o)

Well, can you tell me if the following is the correct setup (my translation
from Danish): Functions > Settings => new window > "page" config. of email >
send/receive => new window > mark "all accounts" > edit => new window > "yes"
in all 3 upper fields. The lower part shows the name of my IMAP account >
when I open I see the inbox (which I can expand further showing 3
subfolders). The inbox is already marked "fetch all item inclu. enclosed
files" (and now I mark the 3 subfolders the same way as well saying OK all
the way back). When I mark the account name (the uppermost line in this
field) the "fetch only headers"/"fetch all item" choice isn't available, BUT
although inactive I can see that the "fetch only headers" is marked. Is this
wrong? If so, how to change it?

I don't use IMAP myself, I'm trying to help a non profit organisation
setting this up (but not very succesfully). In case you cannot answer, could
you please pass this on to someone who can? :)

Thank you in advance!

What I meant by that the IMAP account appears to be included in the Junk
E-mail processing, based on what I can see if some of the diagnostic logs.
The next time I get junk mail in my Hotmail account, I'll try forwarding it
to the IMAP account to see what happens. Sorry for the confusion.

I just want to know, does the combination of IMAP and spamfilter work
together? Yes according to you and the online help, no according to my own
experience.

The sooner the better if you can help clarifying this. I will look forward
to your answer once again.

If no one else around here already knows...?
