Hello All,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with this...

I have an IMAP account that filters my mail into various folders on
the server before I even connect with my email client. I like this
feature as my mail is filtered no matter where I read it, whether it be
from a web browser or via a desktop IMAP client. The problem I am having
is the following. I need to be able to send email from different
accounts. I have 2 different accounts. One is business and one is
personal. Both email accounts come into the IMAP store and are filtered
on the server side as I mentioned above. What I can't figure out is how
to send SMTP mail out specifying which account (personal or business) I
would like the mail sent from. Can Outlook do this? Any suggestions on
IMAP clients that can? Thanks!

- Derek

Sigh, what version of Outlook are you using?

the SWEN virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted
without reading.

Sigh??? Well... I sure hope I am not bothering you... In any case I
figured out the solution thanks to another resource and thought I would
post it here.

I use my IMAP folders as intended but for each external POP3 account I
want to be able to send from I create a POP3 account within Outlook. I
then go to the "Send & Receive" settings inside Outlook and uncheck the
option to receive mail for each one of these account. I only enable to
option to "send" mail from the POP3 accounts. This way the only folder
visible on my folder menu is the IMAP folder. So basically if you want
to send from another account...add it and then disable checking the
account for receiving mail. I hope this helps someone else.

The sigh is mostly due to the fact that Outlook has a
less-than-stellar implementation of IMAP. It was originally designed
as a POP3 client and it shows. This question has been asked in the
past: try doing a search for "imap multiple account outlook" on
Groups.Google.

In any rate, you solved the problem which is the main
thing. Hopefully other people will be able to use your solution.
