A month or two back there was a two-post thread here that said.
Occasionally (but not always!) when I try to open a .tif
or .jpeg in Windows Imaging (the default image viewer that
comes with 2KPro), I get a window which says
"This document's format is invalid or not supported."

Since these formats are obviously supported, in what sense
could they be invalid? Or is something else wrong here...?
Usually tifs and jpegs open OK.

There are several different flavors of TIF and JPEG formats
(multipage, progressive etc) and Imaging probably doesn't
support all of them. Use IrfanView instead (search Google).

Well, I've got this problem with some specific TIF files that used to work,
and now they dont! So no question about flavors! And Irfanview can't open
them either. Does anyone know of anything else for repairing TIFs or a more
suitable group to post it in?

Are the files corrupted? Can someone else open them on another PC?

I've got a laptop and they don't open on that. They were created on a PC
whilst running Windows XP which I subsequently reformatting and put Windows
2000 on, and which was the OS when I first noticed the problem. I've now
upgraded again to XP and they still don't work.

They still have the same or at least very similar file size to their
uncorrupted state. There must be a way to repair these things ...?

You pull out the backup copy and use that.

Tried that but that too is corrupted, which suggests it might have been an
error in saving the file at the time of its creation.

In that case you don't have an image file, just random magnetic bits
occuping disk space. Sorry.

Surely 99.9% of the file must still be there, its just not opening. There
must be some low-level thing that can really get to grips with the image
....?

Hi,

Just found this thread - did you get and answer/solution ? I'm faced with exactly the same situation and I'd like to be able to interogate the TIFF in greater detail to see what is different about it. I can open it in Paint, but Adobe and KodakImg just refuse to have anything to do with it.

Cheers

Sid
