Just picked up an HP 854N Media Center PC. Right off the bat, IE 6 will not
load a number of images on various pages, showing only the placeholder (when
selected) and the stats bar ticking off the images remaining to load...
which never do.
I've beaten the Knowledge bases to death... the works--encoding options,
show pictures, security and privacy levels, I've even done a destructive
system restore and started over from scratch. And I STILL can't get some
images to load.
They're fine in Opera, but I use an IE specific CMS that requires me to work
in IE whether I like it or not (not much, at the moment). I'd really
appreciate some help on this... it's got us totally stumped.

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer
Been all through 283807... from stem to stern with no noticeable result.

That article doesn't mention the thing that helped me
when I had that problem: change cache checking to
Every visit...
(Alt-T,O,Alt-S,E)

It was slower but more reliable.

BTW notice that in its latest incarnation that article is referring
to itself as a troubleshooter so remarks like "with no noticeable result",
which imply that you are looking at it as a fix, are now less appropriate.
For example, the fact that the images are "fine in Opera" but not in IE
might have a reasonable explanation. The real reason may lie in the
HTTP protocol but unfortunately few people are equiped to capture
it and even fewer know how to analyse what they do capture.
