Hi,

When I try to save an image off of internet explorer it will only download
them as a .bmp, no matter what the format. Also it always is assmed that
the name of the picture is untitled. Why is this doing this and how can i
fix it? Thanks in advance.

This is a common problem, also discussed here:

I just built a new machine and had this problem until I installed my
Photosuite, which added the Jpeg option. (I now haave only BMP and JPEG)

There are several ways to work around the problem.
1- save as bmp and convert with a photo editer
2- save with a free screen capture utility (use the region capture to save
just the graphic, rather than window capture that requires clipping)
3-search for the image on your disc by name; the correct extention should
be available.

It is a known problem, and very irritating.

In addition to the other comments, you might investigate the following:

This program lets you designate the type of file it should be saved as,
as well as saving the complete screen or just a portion of a screen. A
pretty nice program.

Does this occur with ALL images loaded in the browser (IE), from any
website and/or locally stored?

Had you installed a 3rd party imaging application, then perhaps
uninstalled it?

I'd try repairing IE (add/remove programs choice) or reinstalling it.

#1 This is the wrong group to post your question in and ...

#2 IE, as a web browser, sucks. It hasn't been significantly upgraded
in over two years. Use a good web browser, and not only will you not
have these annoying problems, you'll have lots more useful features as
well. I recommend Mozilla Firefox. Download it from here:

Ooh, someone is bashing IE; how original. Maybe you don't like IE, and that's fine, but a lot
of us, including many who have tried the other brands, like it nonetheless; it's a matter of
personal preference. Acting like Mozilla doesn't have a host of bugs of its own is just being
foolish.

For the OP, this does happen to me occasionally and it is annoying; one thing that works most of
the time is to copy the location of the image, and open it up in it's own window. For some
reason this will let me save it in the original format.

Mozilla may have some bugs, but they aren't near the severity of IE.
Microsoft has acknowledged that there is a security flaw in Internet
Explorer that allows spoof characters to change the URL displayed from
what page you're actually visiting. And instead of fixing the bug, what
does Microsoft say to do? Don't click on links; instead, type all web
addresses in by hand. And no, I'm not even kidding:

That's a pretty inconvenient bug to have to live with when the solution
is just one install away.
