Images displayed as low-res

A few weeks ago I got a new laptop running Win XP and IE6. The photos and
graphics in IE appear to be displayed at low resolution on this system.
Hasn't been an issue until now. Is there a setting in IE to change to
full-res viewing? (I'm assuming this low-res thing is a performance setting)

Details:
It's not the ISP, other machines on same account are fine.
This is a big LCD, 1400 x something.
The machine displays images at full res in other apps.
