Image source path changing during publishing

When I first published new pages up to a site the img src
paths to the images folder on the site were correct in the
HTML and it functioned fine.

But after republishing a few times in order to make some
copy changes, the pictures weren't displaying. When
viewing source in my browser I discovered that the paths
for all the images in the page had reverted to the local
paths from my desktop computer from which I had published
the pages. So, obviously, the host web server couldn't
find them.

I went into FrontPage and deleted everything in the local
path preceding the images folder and republished the
pages. They then worked fine.

What happened? How come this reversion to the local path
happened in FrontPage? Now when I open the web in
FrontPage it takes several seconds for the images to
display. Everything works OK after than, but it just seems
like FrontPage is looking for things in the wrong place.

If you don't open your web prior to editing pages and inserting pictures,
FrontPage has no way to know that you are working on a web that is going to
be published, and as FrontPage can work with file-based webs and pages, it
simply puts the file path in. Bottom line: 1. Import images into your web
prior to using them in your pages. 2. Open a web prior to editing any pages
in it for any reason.
