When I try to save a image from any website and right
click on "save picture as", I only get the option of the
BMP file type and not jpg. Other machines work fine.

Strangely, i can "copy" an image but the paste function is
grayed out.

Maybe they have newer version MS Internet Explorer or MS Windows ?
Maybe they have MS JPEG driver installed as part of MS Office ?

At least You can save BMP and then compress it with some free tool like
GIMP, IrfanView.

Ooh! BTW, can You open this BMP in MS Paint and save it to JPEG ?
If yes, then You probably already has JPEG driver and need to update MS IE

Where do You want to paste it to ? What the sense in the operation?

No. There is something broken with internet explorer. Imagine: from an
internet site, you will mostly get .jpg or .gif. No conversion is
needed. So why does IE convert the .jpg into .bmp? Just broken.

The OP should try to repair his IE (better get the latest version via
Windows Update) or - even better - switch to more reliable and safer
internet browsing software.
