Will newer versions of Norton Ghost allowing creating an image of a 30
GB hd in only one image file? I have an old version 6.03 but in
writing the file, it breaks up the image file in multiple 2 GB files.

Also, anyone know which version of Ghost comes in the Norton System
Works Professional 2003?

Older versions of Ghost only supported FAT, and FAT has a 4G
individual file-size limit. I'm guessing the 2G was due to Ghost using
32-bit integer math instead of 32-bit word math? I think newer versions
can write to NTFS, which has MUCH higher limits, beyond current hardware
limits.

Norton Ghost 9.0 v2i backup image files are unlimited in size (prerequisite
is that the backup image target is an NTFS volume) per volume.
If the volume were an FAT32 one, than the file size limit would be set to 4
GB...

Ghost will create image segments only up to 2GB regardless of type of
filesystem or OS. What kind of a problem that creates for you? I found it
actually beneficial, since I can burn smaller image segments to CD-Rs or
DVDs.

Well, I seem to be getting two answers here 4 GB in FAT and unlimited
in Ver 9. What will 2003 give me? It costs considerably less.

The current 2 GB files I'm getting are OK but I'd like to backup to a
2nd HD and keep the image in 1 file. The version I have requires you
to set through the backup and respond each time the program request
next disk. Restore requires the same. 1 file would be easier to
manage.

No, there is only one answer. Ghost will produce a maximum 2GB file size for
image segment.
That is for FAT32 and NTFS.
Gost 9.0 is not a Ghost product. It is a recent DriveImage named Ghost 9.0
by Symantec.

If you provide proper switches for Ghost, it will never prompt for next
segment file name.

Thanks Peter, I will find the switches. That will work fine for me
and I won't have to buy a new version. I still use FAT 32 and have no
issues with it. In fact, I still like the idea of DOS access to
files. I know......I'm living in the past, but I still feel
comfortable with the C prompt. Again, thanks for the help.

No problem.
I use the following switches:
ghost.exe -Z9 -FDSP -SPLIT=650 -AUTO -CNS

I still live in the past... and like the old, good Ghost.

If you want to explore new ways of using it, get BartPE and Ghost32.exe.

Peter, it worked! I didn't try the switches but just changed the info
in the "Options" menu. I don't have documentation on Ghost since it
came on a motherboard install disk. Where can I find info on command
line switches?

What is BartPE and what version of ghost does Ghost32 live in.
