What is a good image editor to use to create images for web pages?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Irfanview does not create images, as the OP requested. It merely
optimizes and adjusts them.

Mine creates images in Irfanview when I scan them and let's me do just about
anything I want with the image. So, I believe that would count as
"creating".

Irfan View, Paintshop Pro, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, MS Image
Composer.....practically any one of these and more. The aforementioned
programs seem to be used alot by members here.

It's your choice, whatever suits your skill level.

Hmmm... one thing I've noticed. Some of the dialogs are strangely similar to the image
viewer I've used for years, LView Pro v1.D2. Betcha it was based on that!

So far, the only thing I miss is in a slide show, I can't use the cursor to grab the
image and move an oversized image left & right, up & down.

I don't know what it was based on.

As I understand (from reading stuff on the site from the author) it was something he put together, possibly as a project for
University (I am dredging my memory here) and thought it was worth sharing.

Whatever. It is a geat product.

That's not creating images, in the way one creates images in a graphics
program, that's just, um, scanning them.

Again, IrfanView cannot /create/ images.
