image editor, for reduce blur ?

I have a Kodak CD. On it, three photos. These were taken with one of those
$3 disposable cameras. Bad camera, plus...poor lighting, messy background,
and inept photographer (moi).

I plan to crop them. Combine them into one image (keeping the rectangular
photo borders). They're pics of an animal, and the main problem is some
blurriness, especially in one of these pics, where her features and contours
are not adequately distinct.

I only want to deblur her, btw. The background would do best either left
alone, or perhaps made a bit lighter and more vague.

My past experience has been largely limited to occasional use of some
enhancement features offered by image viewers (Irfanview genre). Best
consider me newbie-totale on image editing. What I want is something that
would not only improve the photos...but as well something that wouldn't
require my doing any reading or studying. That I could complete this
project in less than an hour or so. To repeat, since that's the key part
of my request. Want lowest learning curve, quick to get this done.

Suggestions, please?

I'd appreciate most not just which freeware would be good, but also some
language. For what operations to look for, to achieve what I want. (I have
a number of photo ed programs, not just freeware, but also including some
of those payware types that come with hardware. But don't know where to
start, what to look for.)

Extra note. I think I'll plan to stay away from any color adjustments
whatsoever for this. Reason is that I'm at a remote location, with only
my notebook's monitor, whose color display is a flukey, independent
(non)representation of actual colors.

Unshake is probably more geeky than you want, but you can take a look at
its home page and decide for yourself.

Note that this is a Java application.

Took me a while to figure that if you want it even sharper, you just
click "Apply" more than once.

BTW, that looks like an older version. I got a notification a week or
two ago for version 3.41. There is a direct download for the newer
version at http://cursorarts.swmirror.com/imf_fw.zip

- return address is altered slightly to reduce spam.

Oui, c'est simple.

And I do appreciate that the program gives a brief definition of each effect,
right in place where you click to set them in. Useful for beginners.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out, that sharpen was something that had ill
effect (coarse granularity). Reversing the other way got me nowhere, too.

Where I got a little relief was using this prog's "hue and saturation"
menu item, and increasing saturation. Also its "gamma correction" menu
item, and up'ing brightness a small notch.

I'd planned to try to not mess around with colors too much, yet it's the
only way I've been able to get my pic quality a bit less abrasive to the
eye.

I'm now downloading now the newer one. I've seen ImageForge recommended here
repeatedly, and with some enthusiasm.

Yet, to be honest, its behavior too much resembles that of unregistered
shareware for my palate. The bogus & sneaky regentry (HKCU\Appevents\CLSID\)
to track usage. The forced startup splash where you must click OK to proceed.
(Can't be turned off, correct?)

Still I'll test trial for a brief bit, long enough see what it might have, as
far as graphic edit features, that others don't.

Thanks for the suggestion. I avoid Java programs, so this might be best
enjoyed by someone who does do Java. What is helpful for me is reading that
page. The clear talk about ie, an "automatic deconvolver." All new to my
ears, before today.

At first read, I thought he might be pulling my leg. Like making up
the kind of language that the Star Trek (original) script writers
always /wished/ they could think up.

Yet there it is, right on the menu, "Restoration by Deconvolution."
Rows and colums select. Number of iterations. Scaling, details. And
a whole range of models (blind, motion, matrix, gauss..) Oops, there
getting a bit out of my element, spaceship left me behind. 8-o

This fellow is high gentry! Excellent manners. (No install. And, beyond
preferences key, no reg fill...despite all the graphics ed capabilities.)
Interface: calm & collected. Eh, sophisticated! I can't grasp half of what
he says, but I surely likes his accent. :)

http://meesoft.logicnet.dk/Analyzer/help.htm#RestorationByDeconvolution

I tried some basic blind pokes here, and am pleased to be reading the
infobits on this new subject....

Yet, my pics at hand, I've started to conclude that my problems are more
rudimentary. It wasn't until taking a closer look at the Kodak CD situation
that I learned that they were scanned in at 300 DPI. Now learning that,
I think I might have to focus on taking more primitive measures to get
them visually bearable, basics like resigning to fairly small sizes.

Image Analyzer, outside this one little project, it's definitely a long-
term keeper. And it makes me want some day to be able to understand the
meaning behind all those impressively fancy commands...

My favorite graphics program for digital camera files:
Digital Camera Enhancer
http://www.mediachance.com/digicam/enhancer.htm
be amazed ;-)

Neat, fast little tool. Will keep it for future use. Even though poking
about with its sliders did not bring me relief from the poor quality of
these particular pics. On the web page, a main thing they speak of is how
well it works for skin. My model has no bare skin, is furry all over...
OTOH, CleanSkinFX, another of their tools, it did do some good improvement
to one of the photos. Maybe has to do with its "enhance pink" checkbox, as
the fur is fawn color...

These quick freeware tools from Mediachance are direct and to the point.
Drag an image into the dual-view layout, automatically have the presets
take effect on the "after" view. Press a couple things for minor
adjustments. It's handy that the operations apply only to attempting to
improve photographic images (spare of all those "artistic effects" type
operations, which complicate the mix).

http://www.mediachance.com/digicam/index.html

I grabbed up Free Digital Camera Enhancer, ColorCastFX, and ClearSkinFX.
Also JPEG Quality Estimator.

Thank you for pointing me there, Duddits.
