I'm trying to install IE6 but it keeps locking up.

When I do go to install it, the first thing that happens is that i get an
error telling me 'cannot make a directory entry' and it says that "setup
could not finish opening a file on your destination disk."
source file: 'c:\windows\temp\IXp000.TMP\iesetup.inf'
destination file 'c:\windows\inf\iesetup.001=Iesetup.inf'

it tells me i can skip the file if i want to, but it seems like everytime i
try to install, the thing locks up at 90% and can't continue. If i skip the
file or not, it still locks up.

Oh, and I am running Microsoft Windows ME.

I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Coreyhart :-)

I have WinME, and I have had to try to do this myself, and I have gotten the
same error: Try the following and see if it will help. It did for me....
:-)

Prior to reinstalling ME

Per - Koldbear

"Also you need to remove "Windows Media Player 9" (WMP9), if installed.
Use "System Restore" to remove it or if that's not possible, then
delete the file "C:\Windows\System\wmploc.dll". This prevents the
"VERX" error, which will cause the re-install to fail. "

"But, just rename the wmploc.dll to wpmloc._Old dll while you are
installing ME, then remove the Old from the file and restore it to
wmploc.dll. Also, reintall ME from Safe Mode."

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Are you installing via Windows Update?

Is your anti-virus disabled during the install and are all IE windows
closed?

Have you ever had IE6 installed before and did you then reinstall WinME?

I ordered Verizon DSL and it came with an installation disc. The first thing
it the disc does is tell me that my Internet Explorer is too old and that I
must install this new one. Right after that it tells me that there is the
problem with that file. Eventually it locks up.

My anti-virus is closed.

This is my first time installing IE6 until today. I've tried over and over
to install it today but it always locks up. And I haven't reinstalled Win ME
before.

Please include all of the previous message in your replies, Corey.

I didn't really mean to avoid any questions. I'm not trying to be difficult
and I totally appreciate getting help on this. I copied and pasted
javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

and it said ;q269368;
