hello (again)

well, i took your good advice and sorted out the text
issues i was dealing with earlier.. and tada, my movie
is complete.

except..

i can't view it correctly as a saved movie file. i can
view the timeline of the project just fine in moviemaker
itself.. but if i try and view the actual saved movie in
media player, it plays pretty much okay (enhanced picture
quality compared to the preview in moviemaker!) but it
chooses to pause on some frames, almost like a lag. i
wondered if i'd somehow messed up the frames myself, and
went back and checked the project file, and then even
imported the new movie file and played it through movie
maker, and it worked fine there. so why is my computer
being silly and pernickety?

i checked both papa john and kelly sites.. and found
lots of potential advice, but so far nothing has changed.

frustratedly in need of help!

Adrienne,

It could be that the file is fine but your computer is having some
difficulty playing it smoothly.... video playback is one of the more taxing
tasks for a computer.

Hard drive defrag is important and so is not having other running apps.

The preview mode of MM2 is 320x240 at 15 frames per second, a relatively
easy task. So smoothness of playback of the saved movie has a lot to do with
the quality level you select to render the movie. If it's DV-AVI on the way
toward a DVD, it's especially taxing.

So maybe nothing is wrong!!!

So maybe nothing is wrong!!!

hurrah hurrah for me - with the morning, and fresh eyes
comes a slight (if obvious) epiphany. i used the cheesy
free program that came with the computer and dvd burner
to put my film and bits and bobs on to an actual dvd that
can be played in dvd players...

....and it works! beautifully! the clarity is much
superior to the saved version played on my laptop and i
feel like jumping around for joy!!

thanks for the help on here. this is a wonderfully
reassuring place. :)

p.s. in case anyone was wondering, this is my
first 'proper' attempt at creating a video of any edited
length and i'm using it this morning to be assessed as my
final work in a collaboration module as part of my MA.
wish me luck! :)

Hi there,

For future reference...laptops have several features that inhibit
playing video on them...they are all related to the battery saving features
....I would call it a bit of double dealing myself...the feature if enabled
reduces the core voltage in your CPU thereby saving power...but it also
means that everything runs slowly..it therefore takes longer to do and use
therefore use the battery for longer !!! Someone probably got promoted for
thinking that one up !!

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
