I'm Stumped

I've got two issues:

1) new W2K Pro Workstation in a new W2K (Single) Server network. This
machine looks like it is not properly authenticating to the domain.
When logged in to the workstation as Domain Administrator I cannot
change security properties on desktop icons - the security tab does
not show up on the icon properties. I have changed the wkstn from
domain identity to workgroup then rejoined the domain and this has not
fixed this (did this twice actually).

2) Same network, different W2K Pro workstation(s). I have group
policies looking like it is working. I have changed some of the
policies and can clearly see the results at the client. HOWEVER, when
I try to specify a .bat file to execute at logon via the Group Policy
instead of the logon script field of the user profile - I just can't
get it to work. I've tried using UNC specification thinking maybe I
wasn't pointing to the right location for the script. I applied the
Service Pack updates to the workstation - didn't help.

Can anyone help me on either of these? Thanks.

Allen

Hi Allen-

1) Verify that the file system is NTFS, and that the you are not using
Simple File Sharing.(a Folder Option).

2) Are you talking about placing the logon script in a group policy or the
user account properties? It suonds like user account properties. If you
ahve placed the file in the NETLOGON share
(%systemroot%\SYSVOL\SYSVOL\<domainname>\Scripts) then you should only need
to put the file name. You can alternatively put the FQDN below to do this
in that field:

\\CORP.DOMAIN.LOCAL\netlogon\scriptname.bat

Thanks Tim,

You might have heard the slapping sound as I hit my forhead with the
palm of my hand. I have been so wrapped up with all these new
'preconfigured' pc's I never even thought one of them might not be
NTFS. That took care of question #1.

Question #2 was interesting. It turns out my GP logon scripts were
working and I didn't know it. I was stupid. I thought if I put a
PAUSE command in the script I would be able to tell that the script
was working. It seems that PAUSE doesn't work from my GP logon
script. I replaced the PAUSE with NOTEPAD and now I can see that my
script really was working.

Thanks again.

Allen
