I'm not sure I like XP. I just bought a new computer, with XP. I'm just
starting to set it up and I've come across a stone wall with the Start menu.
Specifically, when I right-click Start & then click Explore, I can't seem to
find most of the items in the Start Menu. Only a few show up. If I can't
explore the items in the Start Menu, then how can I re-arrange them the way
I want? Help!

Greetings --

Are you looking in the All Users profile, the Default Users
profile, or your own user profile?

XP Start Menu(NOT 'flat' Classic mode)Home Edition.
Right-click Start Menu
Option = Properties
Tab = Start menu
Button = Customize
Make changes as desired
Button = Apply
Ok(s)
To change the 'All programs...' items...
show menu and drag/drop items

It says: Documents and Settings > Owner.YOUR-seriel # >
Start Menu > Programs.

Should I be somewhere else, such as
Documents and Settings > Owner, or
Documents and Settings > All Users ?

What is "Default Users" ?

Dragging and Dropping is enabled. I still can't find the programs in Start
Menu on Explore.

Right-Click on Start, choose properties. Double click on the Programs
folder. You will then see your programs.

What EXACTLY are you trying to do?

Bruce:
I took a hint from your post and entered "Explore All Users", instead of
just plain "Explore". Now I think I see what you were getting at. Let me
see if I have this right: The Start Menu items I was trying to move came
with the computer, so they weren't in the "Owner" section of the start menu,
but they were in the "All Users" section. So if I want to move them, that
is where I have to go. If I want to add items to the Start Menu, I can do
so either in "Owner" or in "All Users".

Right ?

It appears that XP is giving me an option I don't need, the ability to make
a Start Menu for everyone who might use this machine, and one for me
personally. Since I am the only one using the machine, I think I will use
"All Users" as my mode of choice for organizing the Start Menu, and forget
about "Owner".

This is more than I need, actually, as there is only me on the machine.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

Is there anything else I should know ?

If an item is in the all user section, any account you create will have them in their start menu, if you move then to a specific
accounts start menu, they will not show up for other users.

Greetings --

Right-click on the Start button and select "Explore All Users."

Just drag and drop on the menu, you do not have to be in Explorer to do that.

And, Microsoft knew you didn't need this before you bought XP....How??
This feature is for those of us that do have more then one account on
their computers. If you have/had kids, would you want them to have access
to your finicial data? Of course not, So, you would want to remove the
link from their account folder.
