Hi Gail

Have you run Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup to see if they help? Both are available via Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

Hi, Gail,

Can you tell a bit more about your computer, such as size of Hard drive, how
much RAM memory you have installed, what speed your CPU is ?
There are many ways to speed up your computer, but more information is
required,

Jerry

For someone just starting to learn about computers, it would seem a big leap to find these newsgroups and post!

Gail-

If you want to see what is hogging the CPU open task manager

Start --> Run
taskmgr (enter)

When the task manager app launches, choose the Processes tab and check with
executable is hogging the cpu.

To stop apps from always starting, try this

Start --> Run
msconfig (enter)

The system configuration utility should launch. Go to the startup tab and
uncheck everything except for applications that you want to be ALWAYS
running in the background. I always delete everything EXCEPT for my
anti-virus program. The next time that you start the computer, those useless
programs that you unchecked shouldn't be running in the background and your
performance should be better.

Good Luck!
