I upgraded from Windows98 to WindowsXP. I’ve started re-installing all my old programs because they didn’t “transferâ€. HOWEVER when I tried to re-install my anti-virus program, it wouldn’t install. My son said that there should be no problem re-installing because he has XP and the same anti-virus program. He said I must still have it on my system and must get rid of it and reboot. I’ve looked in my Add/Remove programs and don’t find it. I did a search and found several old programs listed as still being on my computer but when I try clicking on them in the “search†mode, they really aren’t there and they aren’t listed in the Add/Remove programs. What’s going on? How do I get rid of these GHOST programs or how do I get them to open? I really need to get my anti-virus program re-installed.

Hi Jan, like Milton asked above in your prev post, it seems you just
upgraded over your w98 os. you'd been better off backing up all your
user files to cd etc.. and installing your xp upgrade on a clean and
formatted drive. Once that is done you can reinstall all your other s/w
programs incl your A/virus etc.. you will be glad you did it that way..
there are a number of posts on this issue and guys also offer links to
help u out.. good luck... rob
