Hi, can anyone help, please.

My cd-rom drive (D drive)(I think that's what it's called)
isn't working. When I put a disk in, it doesn't light up
or read the disk, in fact it does nothing. It's as if it
has died. And I don't know what to to do.
Can anyone please help, and I mean in laymans terms not
computer gargon!!!!

Hello Caroline

Well can you provide your pc type and model, and if your cdrom
no longer opens when you press the button it could mean that
it is defective. You will have to go out and purchase a new
cdrom. Or take your pc to a local computer store and have it
replaced.

You can go to control panel, the System, then go to Hardware
then go to Device Manager, then view your cdrom to see if
they are a yellow question mark next to it., if so see link

Hello
double click My Computer and see if it is there if it is double click it and
see if it will run, if not try a different CD and see if it will run,
Cd-Rom's are very inexpensive DVD's are $10-20 more and both are easy to
change and they are plug and play just plug them in and your Bios and OS
will see them and install it, they do go bad and it wouldn't be the first
one I have seen crap out with warning.

You say, when you put a cd in, it doesn't light up, I
assume this means the door slides in and out, if so this
means the power supply works, at this juncture, I would
strongly urge you to take it in and have it checked at
your local computer repair shop, as it appears anything we
suggest would be (over your head) no offense meant.
