Hello all

I have a serious problem re: Trojans, viruses and spyware. Basically, my computer is being constantly hijacked by all sorts of nasties. The main suspects are CID, LOP and Antivirus 2009. I have had a PC guy out today and yesterday at some length and despite HJT, AVG, Spybot, Webroot and numerous other 'fixes' I am plagued to the max. It is slightly better since I put Webroot back on but every few seconds nasties are trying to attack my system. Even so, I cannot get rid of Antivirus 2009 and now I am getting explicit adult porn, poker game sites, dating sites and many others appearing from nowhere.

I think I need some sort of very aggressive approach with this and would welcome some advice. I have a small amount of knowledge but nowhere near the knowledge of most of the users of this site. Any hints/tips need to be fairly clearly stated so that I can follow them.

I run a small business and this is getting seriously worrying.

Gabs, sometimes in situations like this the only permanent remedy is a re-install I'm afraid - trying to get rid of serious infestations often results in a corrupted and unstable OS :(

A back-up your important data to another drive and fully scan it for viruses etc, then a re-install of your OS is probably the best way to go, however, if you PM me a new HJT log I will do my best to see if it is salvageable :thumb:

Download Superantispyware, install it update it

Download Kapersky free trial, install it update it,

Disconnect PC from Internet

Restart PC and run both programs, this should remove most of the crap.

Then restart PC connect to internet and see where you are.

If you are still having proplems then it might be a fresh install of the OS thats required.

Unless anyone has a guide to regedit???

Hope this helps.

Agree with Waynos on the progs - all I will say is often with these scans they remove the immediate problem, but then on rebooting they relaunch themslves from where their hiding.

It often needs some serious reg-editing etc as Waynos is also indicating to remove completely.

Also once you are clear or re-install you really need to use a good AV/firewall suite such as Kaspersky or NOD32

Thanks guys

I will post a HJT log to you Adyweb - can you tell me how to do this? Will you PM me? My IT man has run 2 and he thought that he had sorted matters out.

I am really grateful for your time and trouble, I really am.

The problem is its not just a simple matter of running a HijackThis log and getting it to delete entries, its more of a check to see whats there and still there after applying various remedies - some malware and viruses need fixes run to get rid of them completely, something HJT can't do on its own.

My guess is your 'PC Guy' has only done some basic removal which is not going to be enough I'm afraid.

I'll PM you Gabs :thumb:

Here is a link to a very good deal, it is £15 for 3 pc's, the single user one is £12. So you might aswell get the one for 3 users. You could always help out a friend if you do not need them all.

Also if you re-install remember to partition your hdd into at least two partitions. One of 30 GB for the OS and the rest of the hdd for your files and folders. This makes re-installing your OS much easier if you ever have this problem again.

I don't know how much you pay your IT guy but it would be a good move to buy a 500 GB external hdd, around £60, and keep daily or weekly backups of all your files. Then if your pc goes totaly tits up you have all your important stuff safe.

I see this a lot at wok lol. Can't remember if you have already tried this but, I've mainly cured the problem by running Spybot Search and Destroy a few times, also run it in safe mode aswell. Then after that run Microsoft's online OneCare Scan a couple of times, here's the link :

Just click on protection and allow the scan to run (it does take a while though :( )

Hi all

I am really grateful for your help and support. I have run everything (and so has the IT man) possible and the laptop now won't boot up at all. I have an online back up as well as an external HD so I can get to my stuff at some point.

I think the only option is to wipe the laptop and start again.

Thank you Ady for your PM, I have replied to you.

Mods, could you close this thread please?

Love
