HELP! I have had this computer for over a year now and I cannot get the
Windows Mail to work. I have two desktops (1 for business and 1 for
personal). I also have 2 email addresses. I would like for my business
emails to come to this computer which I use strictly for business. No matter
what I do I cannot receive emails.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem when I bought a new CU. If you have Norton or Mc
Afee. disable the virus check on your mail and restart CU. Hope this helps.

Do you get an error message when you try to send or receive? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Your email account provider should have a help page on their website with
the correct server names and settings.
Some even have tutorials. If they don't have one for Windows Mail, use the
one for Outlook Express.

Or, if you tell us who provides your email account, perhaps someone can
help.

Note that the instructions in the first reply are incomplete. You should
wait for an answer from one of the usual experts. The main thing that is
critical is that some AV software, and especially Norton/Symantec require
the use of special software to totally remove the AV software. I don't know
the details so that is why you should wait for an expert to reply.

Hi Gary....I don't get anything. No error message at all. I would be happy
if I got one....lol. It shows to be receiving messages but they don't show.
When I go to where it says they are, the messages do not exist. One shows
and it is the Welcome to Windows Mail.

Hi Dave...Partnership Broadband is my ISP. I've called them (several times)
and they say it is Microsoft. I called Microsoft (no help...they want me to
pay for help)and they said was "it was Acer". I called Acer and they said it
was Microsoft. This has been going on for a year now. The emails download
but go nowhere. Been to where it says they are stored which is
"\users\joy\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsMail", but guess what, the only
message that's there is the original "Welcome to Windows Mail". I have
checked all settings in tool/account/properties/ etc, etc, etc. Also checked
settings in tools/options/advanced/maintenance etc., etc., etc.

Have you tried sending an email to yourself? Does it appear to send,
and is a copy placed in Sent Items? Does that message arrive in your
Inbox?

Is just one of the computers having this mail problem, or both?
Have you tried installing the second (personal?) email account to see
if that one will work?

In over a year?
Are you one of those people who back before DVD's used to leave VCR's with
clockdisplay blinking because they were so dumb, fat & pardon my French -
imbecile, they couldn't grab a remote control & manual and learn HOW THINGS
WORK?

Joy did you try to disable your virus program from checking your mail? If
not, give it a try . Be sure to reboot your COMPUTER. No matter what SAM
said.

Sam, I was not telling Joy to remove her AV (as you call it ) . All I was
telling her was to DISABLE the check on her E-mail. She can enable that after
her mail runs OK. Needs to reboot after disabling the mail check.

Yes, and if you spend the time to look at a couple thousand previous
replies, I believe you will find instructions from the regulars saying that
some AV software must first be uninstalled in order to effectively disable
the email scanning feature. Note that I don't consider it to be unreasonable
to suggest that people read a couple thousand previous messages, since I
sure did.

I might be wrong about the need to totally remove the AV software, but I am
just saying that the usual experts such as Gary and Pa Bear are most likely
to have the most complete answers.

Since you are a smart person, could you please figure out how to quote the
message you are replying to so people will know what you are replying to?

Just a bit more information would make this a lot easier to troubleshoot.

What is your hardware configuration?
Are you home based?
What connection do have, Dial-up, DSL, or Cable
You need to know your ISP mail server information (under
Tools>Accounts)
make sure you mail server (POP and SMTP are correct.(example:
pop-server.ma.rr.com)
(under Tools>Accounts) Each email address has to be added separately.
It sounds like you have a configuration issue with your mail setup.
