I'm getting ready to purchase VueScan

Should I get the Standard or the Professional version?

My main concern is scanning LP covers in four sections on an HP 4600 and
stitching using PTAssembler.

Using the demo version convinced my that Vuescan is far superior to the
software that HP provides for this scanner and makes the scanner usable
for the purpose for which I bought it. Does the demo version rely on
features that come only with the Professional version or can I expect
the same results from the Standard version that I get with the demo?

So... Pro or Standard version?

Thanks,
Jack

Depends on your other scanning needs but the Pro version, obviously,
gives you much more control over e.g. color-management and Raw
scanning, and unlimited free updates. So it depends on your particular
use.

I suppose the Standard version will do (I use the Pro version) for
your covers project, but check-out the features comparison on the web
pages first, or ask Ed Hamrick about upgrading from Standard to
Professional should you desire.

The website does have a link to an upgrade - cost is the $40 price
differential

I would go ahead and purchase the Pro version if you can afford it, Jack -
the ability to use your preferred color space and the unlimited free
upgrades are IMHO worth the extra $40.

I went ahead a got the Standard version. Ed should maybe offer the Pro
features as a demo somehow so prospective buyers can see what they are
getting. As for me, at this point, I am just happy to get some software
that will give me a decent digital image from the LP covers I want to
digitize. I wouldn't know a color space if I walked into one.

Well, if the Pro version is available for $40 more, that's good. I
wouldn't dick around though: just get the pro upgrade. I don't think
Vuescan raw file is functional with non-Pro version. For me, it would
be worthless without this.

The price difference is peanuts. Your upgrade privelege runs out in a
year, I believe, and the non-pro version has many important features
shut out. It's your money, your decision. You ask for opinion, I
offered one.

But Jack is scanning LP covers (reflective art) so RAW does not apply.

I would, however, upgrade before your year is up, Jack - don't forget the
free upgrades for life. And if you want to scan into AdobeRGB or ColorMatch
rather than sRGB, you need the Pro version.
